The Millennial Gaia Statue

I first met the Millennial Gaia sculpture several years ago while living in Escondido CA. I say “met”, because my first impression upon walking into Raven's Loft, and seeing this sculpture, was one of awe and an almost immediate desire to have her come home to live with me. Raven’s Loft was a store owned by the author, Raven Grimassi, and his partner, Stephanie Taylor. They have since closed the store but continue to sell Wiccan and Pagan products through their on-line store.

The store was also featured in an independent movie called “Mind Forest,”in which both my husband, Arawyn, and myself acted as extras. You can find more about that movie, and watch the trailer, at the Mind Forest website. At this time it is not available for purchase, but there is hope that at some time it will be made into a full-length feature. Here is a picture of Arawyn as the character, Malcolm Wallace. He was also one of the technical advisors for the movie, along with Raven Grimassi. He also is responsible for the chant "We Call to Thee" that is interwoven throughout the movie.

But, back to the Millennial Gaia. Gaia is the primal Greek Goddess personifying the Earth. She was created by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, the founder of the Church of All Worlds. Along with being an artist who enjoys sculpting images of the Gods and Goddesses, he is also a author, lecturer, teacher, transpersonal psychologist, metaphysician, shaman, and priest of the Earth-Mother Gaia. He likes to call himself a “wizard.” He is credited with formulation of the thealogy of deep ecology, which has become known as The Gaea Thesis.

Zell designed his vision of Gaia with a planetary globe forming Her pregnant belly. Every part of Her body contains symbols of the living Earth. Sculpted in the back of Her hair are animals tracing the evolution of life on land and those Her legs trace the evolution of life in the sea. One breast represents the moon, the other the is a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables. Similar engravings on her arms show the forests: Redwoods on Her right arm, and the tropical Rain Forest on Her left. Her facial features are a blend of all races. She symbolizes the interconnectedness of all being. The statue comes with a printed guide to every image. This is one altar statue you will treasure forever.

You can get your own Millennial Gaia statue from Gaiam by clicking on the image below.
